If you want the best water purification in a portable or countertop water filter, our Aquakleen countertop reverse osmosis system is the way to go. It has a high-quality USA made four stage filtration system, much like the undersink version, however, it does not have a separate tap and instead relies on high-pressure tubing.

The purified water comes out of one of the hose attachments while another dumps the waste down your drain. All you need to do is insert the purified water hose into a jug or container, fill it up and store in your fridge or on your benchtop.

You can use a gravity fed system such as the Stoneware crock or stainless steel filter system to remove fluoride from your water, but it is not possible to have a single fluoride filter that will satisfy all of your broader filtration needs.

Fluoride is a difficult thing to remove and usually requires a specialty filter in conjunction with two other filters which remove sediment, chlorine and heavy metals. So unless you choose a triple countertop water filter or one of the gravity fed systems, you can't remove fluoride with one single filter.

This depends on how much the filter is used and the quality of the water running through it. On average, most filters can last up to 12 months. However, some may need changing every 6 months.

The countertop reverse osmosis filter system is more complex, with each filter requiring different frequency of change:

• First filter – every 6 months
• Second filter – every 12 months
• Third every filter – every 3 years
• Fourth every filter – every 2 years
