How to find the right water filter cartridge for your kitchen's Zip tap.

When it's time to change over your Zip water tap filter, do you know how to find the right cartridge for it? Replacing Zip water filter cartridges isn't always as simple as finding the exact same model as last time. If you found that your previous filter was underperforming or didn't last as long, it may be time for a change.

The Zip range of water filter replacements includes options that can improve the performance of your tap. In the past, you may have chosen a water filter cartridge that underperformed simply because it was not used for its intended purpose.

If you were using a cartridge intended for residential use in a commercial environment then chances are it wouldn't have lasted as long, or performed as well as you expected. A filter intended for commercial use could have been way more effective.

Installing the right water filter cartridge for your kitchen will provide great benefits. Your kitchen will not only enjoy cleaner water but longer-lasting results that can help you save on maintenance costs, as well.

Not sure what type of cartridge your Zip water filter needs? Ask one of the experts from Water People.

Generic versus branded models

Aftermarket filters can be a viable replacement option for your Zip tap filters. It's always a good practice to double-check the specifications of the aftermarket filter you wish to purchase. You will need to ensure that model numbers match up with the same branded filter you are replacing.

It's also best to check what the capabilities are of your new filter. For example, can your new filter reduce dirt, chlorine, and bad odours from your water? If a new aftermarket filter doesn't perform the same tasks as your previous branded filter, you won't get the same quality of water.

While aftermarket filters can be cheaper, it's always best to consult with an expert. A water filtration company like The Water People can confirm if you're choosing the right filter for your Zip tap.

Finding the right Zip water filter

Are you in the process of trying to figure out what type of Zip water filter replacement you need? One of the first things you can do is identify what type of environment the filter will be used in. The environment of your Zip water filter can help determine which filter cartridge you need.

All Zip water filters come with a rating such as 3 microns. This rating indicates what size particles the Zip water filter can process effectively. There are certain types of filters that are more suited to residential or commercial use. Two of the most common types are 0.2 micron rating and 3 or 5 micron rating water filters.

You'll notice in the table below that not only does each Zip water filter have a rating, but also certified benefits such as the removal of chlorine. If your filter was underperforming in the past, it may have been due to the fact that it simply wasn't designed to filter the type of sediment that it was struggling to filter from your tap.

Matching by manufacturer year

Another way to find the correct Zip water filter is to identify the manufacturer year of the tap. New replacements filters can be purchased that match the specifications of filter taps. This can be identified by your Zip tap's serial number. Most of the zip systems serial number starts with 4 digits that identify the year of manufacture. For example, if your serial number is 2009XXXXX, chances are your system was manufactured in 2009.

Zip water filter changes and installation

The changeover and installation of a Zip water filter doesn't have to be done by a certified professional. However, enlisting the assistance of a professional will always be a safer and more reliable option.

Check out our easy installation guide below to see what's involved when it comes to installing a new filter cartridge:

Filter change instructions

Step 1. Turn off the tap for your water mains. This is usually located at the front of your house, where the water meter is.

Step 2. Relieve any built up system pressure by turning on the tap. Use a bucket to collect any discharge.

Step 3. Unpack your Zip water replacement cartridge and remove the sanitary cap.

Step 4. Moisten the O-ring with water and push the new cartridge into the filter head.

Step 5. Turn the filter cartridge 1/4 turn to the right until it comes to a complete stop.

Step 6. Flush at least 10 litres of water through your new Zip water filter cartridge before you start to consume any water from it.
